After the hard work and a lot of concentrations I finally finished the lantern today. The festival is just around the corner!

Collage making workshop with 6 grade pupils in Aimi primary school.

While Yana and Hudeaki worked with warm colors, me and Thu made a peacock with blue-ish colours.

It was a short time but so much fun!

愛見小学校での六年生とのワークショップ。

2グループに別れて、大きなコラージュを作りました。

子ども達と作るのは楽しい！

Today I visited Marujyu Paper Company to see their factory.

They produce Sukashi-paper (with patterns light can go through) as well as other papers. 

The company collaborates with designers to create new patterns or products.

This is other side of paper making... very different from hand made paper.

So interesting!

丸重製紙企業組合さんの工場見学へ。

透かしの入った紙をデザイナーさんと組んで作られるなど、

新しいことをやられている会社です。

手漉きとは全く違う生産風景。勉強になります。

AIR - day 23

Experiments for making creased paper like fabric.

I wanted to create the texture which can be stable.

Although it is still rough, it was worth to try. 

布の様なしわがある紙を作ってみました。

紙を漉く段階で制作するので、このテクスチャを固めた状態になります。

かなりまだ荒さはありますが、面白い効果なので何かに使えそう。。

AIR - day 22

NHK Gifu broadcasting came to our studio to film our work in progress for the lantern festival. Although it will be on tv only for 5 mins from 6:30pm tomorrow, it took whole afternoon to prepare and walk-through. 

It was fun and interesting experience!

NHK岐阜がスタジオに取材にきました。あかりアート展に向けての作品や工房の様子について、たった五分の枠なのですが、午後いっぱい準備にかかりました。クルーも7人もいて大変。面白い経験になりました。明日の"ほっとイブニングぎふ"で6:30pmから放送です。

This is what I made from "the crisps" I wrote about in yesterday's post.

昨日のポストにあった"チップスター"が、こうなりました。

I asked Haba-san, my host father, to teach me how to make a wire structure. He is not only a lantern artisan but he can do anything! 

私がホームステイでお世話になっている幅さんに、ロウ継ぎを教えてもらいました。幅さんは提灯職人さんですが、何でもできるすごい方です。仕事もキッチリで素晴らしい！
